As part of its working visit to Kazakhstan, a delegation from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), led by Assoc. Prof. Dang Hoai Bac, President of PTIT, held a meeting with the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) under Nazarbayev University to discuss directions for cooperation in artificial intelligence research and large language model (LLM) development.

The meeting took place at Nazarbayev University with the participation of representatives from AI research groups, cybersecurity teams, and international cooperation units of both sides. Representing ISSAI were Mr. Huseyin Atakan Varol, General Director of ISSAI, along with the institute’s researchers and international cooperation specialists.

During the discussion, ISSAI introduced several of its key research initiatives, including the ISSAI Summer Research Program and the development of Kazakh-language large language models such as MangiSoz and Qylan. ISSAI representatives shared that the institute is particularly focused on developing AI solutions for low-resource languages while promoting open research and reproducibility through platforms such as GitHub and Hugging Face, with the goal of producing high-quality international scientific publications.

 Overview of the meeting

ISSAI also shared several research directions related to AI model security, including the development of customized datasets to mitigate prompt injection attacks, as well as flexible AI deployment solutions that can operate on web-based systems or enterprise on-premise servers.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dang Hoai Bac noted that PTIT is currently promoting research and development of large language models for Vietnamese, alongside initiatives for digitizing datasets and documents to support AI research. PTIT expressed its expectation that the two sides could strengthen substantive collaboration between their AI research groups, particularly in areas related to low-resource languages, multilingual AI, and AI security.

Representatives of PTIT’s research groups also introduced their work on multilingual translation systems and discussed the possibility of jointly organizing specialized research workshops between ISSAI and PTIT’s AI teams in the near future.

The two sides agreed to continue discussions to promote collaborative research activities, academic workshops, expert exchanges, and joint international publications in the field of artificial intelligence. The meeting also opened up opportunities for PTIT’s AI research groups to connect with Kazakhstan’s international research ecosystem in strategic technology fields and large language model development.
