On the morning of August 10, 2026, as part of a working visit to Australia, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) joined a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, led by Minister Vu Hai Quan, for a working session with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The meeting focused on directions for cooperation in strategic technologies, advanced research, and the development of high-quality human resources. 

During the meeting with Prof. Andrew Parfitt, Vice-Chancellor and President of UTS, Minister Vu Hai Quan highly appreciated UTS’s proactive approach to cooperation with Vietnamese partners and emphasized the direction of moving beyond conventional educational cooperation toward stronger collaboration in scientific research, innovation, and the practical application of technology. 

Advancing Substantive Areas of Cooperation

Building on this foundation, the Minister proposed three key pillars of cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Technology and UTS: maintaining the annual TechConnect Forum, to be hosted alternately in Vietnam and Australia; expanding UTS’s role as a platform connecting Australian technologies with Vietnamese partners; and promoting advanced research and doctoral training.

In this context, PTIT was identified as one of the institutions that should strengthen direct cooperation with UTS, alongside Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam National University Hanoi.

To translate these directions into concrete action, Minister Vu Hai Quan stated that the Ministry of Science and Technology would allocate funding from the science and technology budget to support joint research projects, while also providing scholarships for outstanding doctoral students with financial support of up to USD 40,000 per year.

Notably, the Minister proposed launching two co-funded research projects in 2026 between UTS and PTIT, and between UTS and the University of Technology – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. This provides an opportunity for PTIT to further translate its connections with UTS into joint research activities while expanding opportunities for its researchers and doctoral students to participate.

Expanding Joint Research Opportunities between PTIT and UTS

During the discussions, Prof. Andrew Parfitt expressed his agreement with the three proposals put forward by Minister Vu Hai Quan and affirmed that Vietnam is one of UTS’s most important strategic partners. UTS is ready to leverage its strengths in priority technology areas while strengthening connections, research commercialization, and cooperation with businesses from both countries.

According to the plan, Prof. Andrew Parfitt will visit and work in Vietnam in early October 2026. The two sides agreed to continue preparing specific areas of cooperation, with a view to formalizing cooperation agreements and announcing joint research projects during the visit.

PTIT’s participation in the working session further expands opportunities for it to strengthen research cooperation with UTS, gradually translating the directions discussed into concrete projects that connect scientific research with technology development and the training of high-quality human resources.
