On August 8, 2024, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) jointly organized the 17th National Scientific Conference (FAIR’2024), with the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Digital Transformation.”
The conference was attended by: Prof. Dr. Dang Vu Minh – Former Central Party Committee Member, Former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Honorary President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Thi – Former Director of the Information Technology Institute, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy – Chairman of the Information Technology Professor Title Council, President of the Vietnam Informatics Association, and Chairman of the Information Technology Institutes and Universities Club; Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong – Chairman of the Board of PTIT; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac – President of PTIT, along with leaders from various universities, research institutes, and the Faculty of Information Technology, as well as over 400 researchers from across the country.
This annual conference, focused on “Basic Research and Application of Information Technology,” serves as a platform for IT experts from universities and research institutes nationwide to present their latest findings and engage in discussions about the application of information technology in practice.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Thi emphasized the vast potential of AI for humanity, as reflected in the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Digital Transformation.” However, he also highlighted the challenges posed by AI, such as the generation of fake content, including texts, images, and videos, by generative AI. He noted that many countries have introduced regulations to address AI-generated materials to protect users and ensure social security.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac highlighted PTIT’s role as a leading and rapidly growing institution in Vietnam, at the forefront of the country’s digital transformation across multiple sectors. He emphasized PTIT’s commitment to enhancing both the quantity and quality of scientific research, with numerous initiatives to establish research centers and foster collaborations with both domestic and international scientists. He expressed PTIT’s commitment to supporting collaborative models in scientific research and education through the FAIR’2024 conference. PTIT is proud to contribute to the event and hopes it will continue to serve as an important platform for researchers in information and communication technology, particularly for university lecturers, staff, and doctoral candidates, to present their research, share insights, and contribute to global IT innovations.
The conference took place over two days, from August 8-9, 2024, with more than 400 participants and around 200 paper submissions. Approximately 90 papers were selected for presentation after peer review. The plenary session featured two key reports: “Human Activity Recognition and Applications” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong from PTIT and “Automatic Text Processing for Han-Nom” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Dien from the University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University.
After the plenary session, the conference split into seven specialized subcommittees: Artificial Intelligence and Applications; AI in Healthcare; Data Science; Information Systems; Image Processing and Computer Vision; Natural Language Processing; and Network Security.
The event was praised for its scale and the notable participation of Vietnam’s IT research community.
During the conference, the Organizing Committee also handed over the flag to Hanoi University of Industry, which will host the 18th FAIR Conference in 2025.
