From August 6 to 8, 2024, in Hanoi, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) organized an academic exchange event as part of the coordination Pods for the SIGCOMM 2024. The main conference took place at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, from August 4 to 8, 2024. PTIT represented Vietnam in the expanded Southeast Asian regional group and organized sideline events alongside Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
The event attracted a strong turnout of lecturers and researchers from leading Vietnamese universities, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Electric Power University, Hanoi Open University, University of Economics – Technology for Industries, CMC University, Phenikaa University, and others. It focused on topics of significant interest to the research and technology development community, particularly aimed at promoting innovation and enhancing modern data communication systems. Participants also had the opportunity to connect with leading speakers and experts, opening doors for potential future collaborations in research.
During the event, prominent speakers from various countries delivered online presentations covering the most advanced and current topics in Data Communications. These included: ConfMask: Enabling Privacy-Preserving Configuration Sharing via Anonymization; NegotiaToR: Towards A Simple Yet Effective On-Demand Reconfigurable Datacenter Network; Uniform-Cost Multi-Path Routing for Reconfigurable Data Center Networks; Shale: A Practical, Scalable Oblivious Reconfigurable Network; Rethinking Machine Learning Collective Communication as a Multi-Commodity Flow Problem; Improving TCP Performance by Speeding Up Slow-Start; Principles for Internet Congestion Management along with various other topics.
The event successfully established a collaborative platform for sharing knowledge and addressing contemporary challenges in research and technology. It also reinforced PTIT’s commitment to fostering a collaborative research environment, enabling participants to exchange experiences and insights. The high engagement during the Q&A sessions demonstrated the event’s success in stimulating critical thinking and deepening participants’ understanding of complex topics in the field.
SIGCOMM, short for “Special Interest Group on Data Communication,” is organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It is one of the most prominent and influential conferences in the fields of computer science and network communications. SIGCOMM focuses on the research and development of new technologies and methodologies in data communications and computer networks. The SIGCOMM 2024 conference attracted leading researchers, engineers, and experts from prestigious institutions like Tsinghua University and MIT, with sponsorship from major technology companies such as Google, Huawei, Cisco, and HP.
