Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and delegates attended the Ceremony to respond to the World Creativity and Innovation Day 2025.

At the event, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that for Vietnam, the World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21 is not only a day for scientists or technology businesses, but also a day to honor the creative thinking of everyone in all industries and fields, to encourage the spirit of “dare to think, dare to do, dare to innovate” in the whole society, and to connect creativity and innovation with sustainable development. According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, innovation allows creativity under limited conditions, which is very suitable for the context of developing countries. Currently, the spending on science and technology in developing countries is low, so innovation needs to be leveraged. If only relying on academic science and technology, developing countries will not be able to keep up with developed countries. Innovation also allows taking advantage of research and development achievements from elsewhere, then combining them with innovation in models, organizations, and product localization.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung: April 21 is both the World Creativity and Innovation Day and Vietnamese Innovation Culture Day.

Innovation does not require investment in labs but requires innovative thinking and innovation culture. This is a more feasible path for countries that do not have enough in-depth research potential but have the capacity to organize, adapt and create society. International studies have shown that innovation is the key for developing countries to escape the middle-income trap…

“We need to create an innovation ecosystem where businesses can improve products suitable for the domestic market, people can innovate in their actual conditions, the State supports the environment, institutions and motivation so that innovation is not hindered, but is opened and spread”, said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, assessed that the promulgation of Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation is a strong signal of commitment, along with allocating 3% of the national budget to science, technology and innovation. According to Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Vietnam’s digital economy currently accounts for 18.3% of GDP, growing faster than any other country in Southeast Asia. Almost all citizens have broadband coverage, 5G is developing rapidly. In the field of AI, the United Nations is committed to supporting Vietnam in providing specialized analysis and advice on AI ethics and helping to strengthen governance frameworks; developing projects to integrate AI into government services while ensuring no one is left behind; investing in education, green and digital skills training and career paths…
