On 20/03/2025, at PTIT’s Hanoi Campus, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) worked with the delegation of the Australian Embassy to deploy the “Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre” – a project within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Australia and an initiative supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, operated in cooperation among PTIT, Nokia and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Attending the meeting, on behalf of the Embassy of Australia in Vietnam, there was Ms. Danielle Cashen, First Secretary (Economic), on behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Huu Hanh, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, from Nokia there was Mr. Hiro Miura, Director of Mobile Networks for Southeast Asia, from UTS there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Director of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre, Director of Transnational Education, UTS, from the National Innovation Centre there was Mr. Do Tien Thinh, Deputy Director of the Centre, from PTIT there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, President, along with leaders and senior officials of relevant affiliated units of the participating parties.

At the meeting, the Centre’s representative presented an overview of the project and expressed the hope that the Centre will become a hub for connecting advanced research, promoting bilateral cooperation between Australia, Vietnam as well as countries around the world in strategic technology fields such as 5G, future 6G solutions, cyber security, AI, semiconductors. In addition, during the meeting between partners and stakeholders, the implementation status of activities in the first phase of the project since its launch was shared. In addition, the presentation described the potential technology systems expected to be used in research and application at the centre by experts, and this groundbreaking partnership promises to revolutionize next-generation network connectivity and strengthen the cybersecurity of the two countries, the cooperation will help Australia and Vietnam lead in the field of global connectivity, while promoting economic growth, strengthening security and expanding access to digital technology for the community.

Representative of the Embassy of Australia in Vietnam, Ms. Danielle Cashen, First Secretary (Economic), said that Australia has experience in deploying new technologies: AI, 5G, cyber security… The Australian Government is ready to support the centre’s partners, thereby expanding access to safe, effective and sustainable digital space and technology for the community. Ms. Cashen also said that the newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Vietnam is also very interested in the Centre and will spend time supporting the centre’s activities in the coming time. “I am very honored and delighted to participate in the meeting to implement this meaningful project. I would also like to express my gratitude to UTS, Nokia and PTIT for your efforts in the past time and hope that the centre will achieve much success.” Ms. Cashen emphasized.

Sharing the same view, delegates representing the leaders of the Department of International Cooperation – Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation NIC, and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) highly appreciated the efforts of the relevant parties in the project implementation process and expressed their determination and commitment to devoting the highest resources so that the project can soon bring about the first results. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Director of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre, Director of Transnational Education, UTS thanked the two governments for their support and trust in implementing the project to establish the centre.

Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, President of PTIT emphasized, “As one of the five key national universities oriented to develop in engineering and technology and one of the pioneering universities in Vietnam in information technology and digital transformation, PTIT is honored to cooperate with partners to implement the activities of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre. This initiative is implemented at an important time when Vietnam is accelerating the steps of transforming new-generation network technology to implement Resolution 57 of the Party, affirming that digital transformation, science and technology are the core driving forces for socio-economic development.”

The partnership between PTIT and the partners under the project will serve as a bridge between experts, researchers, and policymakers from both countries to fully exploit the potential of 5G and 6G technologies. This initiative is supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology. The University of Technology Sydney will lead the initiative to establish the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre; while Nokia, a leading technology innovation group, will act as a founding technology partner at the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre, with the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) solution.
