On August 1, 2024, in Seoul, South Korea, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) officially opened the Joint Training Collaboration Office at Seoul Cyber University (SCU). Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung attended the event, congratulating both PTIT and SCU on their successful collaboration.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Information and Communications, representatives from leading Vietnamese tech companies (Viettel, VNPT, CMC, VTC, HTC), Prof. Eun-Joo Lee, President of SCU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, President of PTIT, officials from both universities, members of the Vietnam Student Association in Korea, and representatives from the Vietnamese community in seven provinces of Korea: Chungcheongbuk, Chungcheongnam, Gyeonggi, Gyeongsangbuk, Gyeongsangnam, Jeju, and Jeollanam.

In December 2023, PTIT and SCU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on academic and vocational education programs, short-term academic and language courses, faculty exchanges for e-learning, and joint research activities. Notably, the two institutions will offer a joint training program in applied Information Technology, providing dual degrees from both Vietnam and Korea.

After over six months of discussions and formalities, PTIT officially launched the Joint Training Collaboration Office at SCU on August 1, 2024. This office will serve as a central hub for advancing applied Information Technology education, modeled after Korea’s digital university system. The program aims to equip graduates with the knowledge, professional skills, teamwork capabilities, and adaptability necessary to meet the demands of businesses and society in both Vietnam and Korea. Graduates will also gain proficiency in Korean and a deeper understanding of Korean culture, preparing them to work in Korean companies. The program includes two years of study at PTIT and two years at SCU, following each university’s specific curriculum.

In addition to serving students in Vietnam, the collaboration also benefits the Vietnamese community working and studying in South Korea by providing high-quality education and support with visa, accommodation, and employment issues during and after their studies.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung praised the PTIT-SCU partnership as a model for digital university development. He emphasized the significance of the program for the Vietnamese community, particularly in South Korea, and noted that SCU’s digital university model serves as an exemplary framework for Vietnamese universities, particularly in curriculum development, operations, and content production. The unveiling of a commemorative stone at SCU symbolizes both institutions’ commitment to implementing the program using modern e-learning systems integrated with digital technologies and AI. The universities were urged to accelerate the expansion of this advanced digital university model.

In response to the Minister’s remarks, the President of PTIT and President of SCU reaffirmed their commitment to launching the first cohort of students in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Seoul Cyber University (SCU), one of the top 40 universities in Seoul, is the first and best online university in South Korea. Established in 2000, SCU offers a wide range of specialized programs across nine departments, including social sciences, business, engineering, and culture. In 2024, SCU was selected for the ‘Second Remote Education Innovation Support Project’ by South Korea’s Ministry of Education, making it the first online university to receive this honor. SCU has won several awards at the Consumer Choice Best Brand Award and the Korea University Newspaper University Awards for excellence in education.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and the delegation also took photos with representatives from the Vietnam Student Association in South Korea and the Vietnamese expatriate community from the seven provinces in South Korea.
