On August 2, 2024, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and Chung Ang University (CAU) in Korea jointly announced the establishment of the Virtual Convergence College (VCC). This announcement followed a working session between the two universities in Korea during the visit of PTIT President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Kwang Yong Park, Vice President of CAU, Prof. Seong Maeng-Je, Executive Vice President for Research Operations, and representatives from various CAU departments.
In line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2023, PTIT and CAU have already collaborated on various academic activities and student competitions. CAU shared its innovative higher education practices with PTIT, including the integration of online and in-person learning, convergence-based education using IT, and game development initiatives. Both universities agreed that the launch of VCC represents a significant opportunity to capitalize on their strengths and open a new era for IT education in Vietnam and IT ecosystem in Korean. VCC will focus on training top students across Vietnam in Game Design and Development, aiming to elevate the global competitiveness of the Vietnamese gaming industry. Students will benefit from a professional, international learning environment and have the opportunity to conduct research under renowned professors from leading universities worldwide.
The universities discussed the procedures for establishing and operating VCC, appointing representatives from both sides as co-founders. VCC is set to begin operations in September 2024.
At the Vietnam-Korea Digital Forum, co-organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association, and the Korea Software Industry Association, Prof. Jong Hyun Wi, co-founder of VCC PTIT and President of the Korea Game Association, presented on “Virtual Convergence College – A New Approach to Education Collaboration Between Vietnam and Korea.” During the forum, PTIT and the Korea Game Association also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on joint research, training projects, the exchange of teaching materials, experts, and students, as well as organizing joint conferences, seminars, and student activities in game design and development.
Chung Ang University, established in 1918, consists of 10 undergraduate colleges and 16 graduate schools. It actively promotes student exchange programs with over 70 universities across 20 countries. Currently, CAU has approximately 33,600 undergraduate students, 700 professors, and 500 staff members, and is regarded as one of Korea’s most popular universities.
