On February 27, 2025, the Government issued Decision No. 452/QD-TTg approving the planning of the network of higher education and pedagogical institutions for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) is one of five universities oriented to develop into a key national universities in engineering and technology with quality and prestige on par with the region.
PTIT, together with educational institutions such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Transport, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education and a number of regional universities, will play a core role in training high-quality human resources and talents, research, development and innovation to serve the fields of high technology, strategic technology and national digital transformation. These are public universities with leading capacity and prestige in training and researching a number of key and cutting-edge technology fields and industries.
With 09 training facilities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, nearly 30 undergraduate training majors/programs, 10 postgraduate training programs as well as research and training cooperation offices in Japan, Korea and Australia, PTIT has a scale of nearly 30 thousand students of all systems.

PTIT is one of the 7 universities training key national human resources in Information Security since 2013; one of the 5 universities in the alliance of educational institutions training in Semiconductor Microchips since 2023. It is the only educational institution in Vietnam to receive the prestigious ASOCIO 2024 Information Technology Award in the Digital Education category, and was voted by SCImago to hold the first position in terms of innovation criteria in the ranking of scientific research institutions in Vietnam. In the field of computer science, PTIT is also the only university in Vietnam ranked in the Asian CS ranking.

Along with Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in the development of Science, Technology, Innovation and National Digital Transformation, being selected by the Government as a key university in Engineering and Technology according to Decision No. 452/QD-TTg approving the planning of the network of higher education and pedagogical institutions for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, will be an important basis for PTIT to promote internal strength, anticipate technological trends to rise up in the new era of the nation.
